I had my first encounter with a true local thieve the other day. Talk about scary!! I don't know how much you know, but Barcelona is really not a dangerous city. There are rarely harmful crimes, just small thefts, especially on Americans. We went on a field trip to Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya for Catalonia and Spain through the Arts. On our way back to school we took the metro, it was during siesta so it was very crowded. As you leave the metro you have to walk through little spaces one person at a time. We got caught up and slowed down, I was in the back. All of a sudden I felt a vibration on my back and heard a zipping noise...I whipped around and saw the culprit!! I grabbed my backpack and questioned him, "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!" He looked at me with a confused face like he had no idea what I was talking about. Luckily, nothing was missing from my backpack. I definitely learned my lesson though...I was starting to slip up on being careful with my belongings. Now I'm twice as cautious!
I wore flip flops yesterday...all day! It's February and I'm wearing flip flops! It was great...except I looked like a complete American...apparently they don't wear them here? Oh well!
Off to Madrid early in the morning! We're taking the train and we'll be there all weekend with our program. I'm excited!
